jwhop | Yeah, we've got some leftist nut cases down here in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area too. Now if a professor at Harvard, Berkley, Columbia or any other leftist bastion of irrationality had said that, he would have gotten tenure and been made a department head. |
juniperb | Idiots and their personal revengeful gods. That statement is so foolish it doesn`t deserve air space. ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

Randall | He also said Florida deserves the same, as well as any state that voted Trump. He was fired! |
juniperb | That statement is precisely shows why I have issues with the fundamentalist religions. IMHO, the statement is a form of fundie hate speech protected by the first amendment ------------------ Partial truth~the seeds of wisdom~can be found in many places...The seeds of wisdom are contained in all scriptures ever written… especially in art, music, and poetry and, above all, in Nature.

Catalina | Sure and its all about leftists.. oh wait! According to Pat Robertson the real sin was supporting gays... http://churchandstate.org.uk/2015/10/pat-robertson-warn s-god-will-flood-all-50-states-if-the-gays-keep-getting-married/

pire | That´s quite a stupid thing to say, cause everyone knows GOD ´s revenge is towards islam. Irony here, obviously |
shura | "That statement is precisely shows why I have issues with the fundamentalist religions. IMHO, the statement is a form of fundie hate speech protected by the first amendment"Except that the prof isn't a fundamentalist. He's a leftist professor of sociology, and his holier than thou disdain isn't for sinners but for those with opposing political opinions. He's also an uniformed (shocker!) leftist because the nasty Nazis of Houston voted Democrat. So I guess we know who the new fundamentalist wackjobs are now. |
Catalina | Hey shura nice to see you😊 but..how do we know the Nazis voted for anyone? There are ridiculous hateful statements from both sides of the fence here. However karma is not necessarily about punishment but just the natural law consequence of ones actions... and Texas voted for DT overall despite a lot of Dem votes. And a lot of other anti-reg folk were elected too. The chemical damage done by leaks and explosion are partly the result of voting for oilmen and their bottom lines. |
shura | Greetings, Cat Google tells me Houston voted for Clinton and a black, Demo mayor. Therefore, this leftist's justification for the supposed wrath of God on Houston flood victims makes about as much sense as .. well, as the usual leftist academic. It's the heartless, fanatical level of partisanship. That a grown man, an educated professional, would publicly condemn thousands for their culture and political choices. To hell with those backward rednecks, right? Let em drown for their sins.

There are plenty of leftists who disagreed with him, including myself. I saw a lot of comments on social media, from people laughing and saying that it was karma for electing Trump - I thought that was heartless, and not at all funny. So did others, who responded right there. Family and friends down there are safe. They've been very lucky. I haven't been listening to the news constantly, but have heard enough to mourn those who are dead. |
teasel | The Nazis also publicly lauded Trump, claimed victory for him on election night, and once again when they held their rally a few weeks ago. No need to blame the Democrats there. |
Catalina | First off he said Texas not Houston. Houston is just the most visible of the affected area Secondly we have no info on whom the Nazis voted for - except for the very vocal ones who supported DT. Dems are not synonymous with Nazis except in the minds of certain dogmatic conservatives 😉 So the fact that Dems voted for HRC in no way answers the question of how we know whom the Nazis voted for does it? BOTH statements(OP and Pat Robertson) are fundie in nature liberal or christian right. Lots of people make stupid statements..why is Robertsons protected and this Prof's not? |

Oh god, I'd forgotten about Pat Robertson. He's always coming out with the nastiest, out there stuff.
